Hello again everybody, I hope this week has been good for you. It’s been up and down for me so far, interesting to see how the rest of the week plays out.
Just a thought:
I like this one from Admiral James Stockdale; it seems appropriate to those of us running a home business. He says simply: “Never lose faith in the end of the story.”
The week in general:
I spend so much of the summer grumbling about the heat- I know people must get tired of hearing about it. Well this week I have no complaints. It’s been cool and lovely for days now; I’m almost tempted to believe summer is on the way out. Almost but not quite. There’s still another month to go and February can be very hot.
In Australia March is the official first month of Autumn (Fall to you Americans). I get quite antsy if March 1st is a particularly hot day. As far as I am concerned Autumn is time for cool weather and I expect that from the get-go.

Speaking of hot and cold I have been having problems with the stove. The oven has been getting way hotter than it should and when I want a cool oven it gets way too cold. Well after enduring this for weeks, last Friday a new stove arrived. Joy oh joy! It only took half an hour for the electrician to install it and ever since it’s been performing amazingly. What a blessing to have a stove that works the way it is supposed to!
The old one was pretty ancient, past its use by date for sure. In fact it was absolutely knackered. Just like some of us I guess.
I live close to the hospital and one thing that disturbs me is when I see and hear an ambulance scream past. I always say a quick prayer for whoever is in desperate need.
Earlier today three ambulances raced past. One after the other, sirens blaring and all going in the same direction. My first thought was that there had probably been a road accident-a serious one to need three ambulances!
Later I heard that a whole family had come near to drowning at a beach close by. Apparently they were visitors from overseas with no experience of reading the ocean and had decided to go for their first swim in the sea together. Well that particular beach has some savage rips and there are warning signs in place to let people know it is dangerous to swim there. This family had very little English and they found themselves being swept way out of their depth.

Some onlookers went to the rescue and managed to pull all of them out of the water but they were in a bad way- the reason for the ambulances. I understand they have all recovered, thankfully.
I do wonder what measures can be taken to warn non-English-speaking people when it is too dangerous to swim. Picture signs maybe? Of course patrolled beaches would be ideal but there is no way all our beaches could be patrolled. Way too big a job and some beaches are very isolated and hardly anyone knows about them.
It’s to be hoped a solution can be found before lives are lost.
The animal family:

It has seemed a bit strange walking my dogs on the beach now that Lexi (the cattle dog who was visiting) has gone home. She loved our beach trips. The last day she came with us she muscled in on a ball game another dog was playing with his owner. Lexi just shouldered him out of the way, and ball obsessed as she is, grabbed the ball and headed back to me. I was kinda hoping she would go somewhere else so I wouldn’t have to be associated with her. No such luck. She brought it straight to me and dropped it at my feet. I swear she was looking quite smug about the whole thing.
The other dog was grumbling to himself in a resentful way but his owner saw the funny side. We chatted for a while about the things dogs get up to while I put Lexi back on her lead. It was the only way I could get her away from that ball. That and promising her a game with one of her collection of balls when we got back home.
My book:

The Other Side of the Ocean is a story of a refugee’s escape from his own war torn country and it follows his journey from a refugee camp and eventually to Australia. In Australia he has to learn a new language, a new culture and a whole new way of life. He also, for the first time in his life, is confronted by the reality of racism.
The characters in the book are fiction but the events are real, based on interviews with a number of refugees I conducted over many years.
As previously mentioned you can get a copy of my book by messaging me on my Facebook page – Beverley Writes. Or use the comments section on this blog. The cost is $30 which also covers postage and handling. Or $20 if you live locally.
My business:
Knackered at 90? Or 90 not out? The idea for this title came from a recent conversation with a 90-year-old who is certainly not knackered. He has been running his own business for years and has no intention of “retiring” any time soon.

It made me think about my own reaction to retirement. I found the whole system totally boring. Having to find assorted activities so I felt important rather than following my heart.
Affiliate marketing has certainly been the answer for me. In fact I believe it is an ideal way to invest your time after retirement. You can bring all that experience and knowledge you have gathered over the years to the creation and management of something that is entirely yours.
I have the satisfaction of creating something I can run from home in my own way and in my own time yet be only a phone call or online message away from all the support I need.
I don’t have to create any products; I just sell what others have produced. So I don’t have any problem with maintaining stock or dealing with returns or any of the hassles of online marketing. I just “connect” people who want to buy something with the person who wants to sell it.
I had tried affiliate marketing a few years ago and totally failed at it and lost money. But this time it’s different. I am guided all the way along- all I have to do is follow a proven system.
It certainly adds excitement to each day. Before I used to be looking for something to occupy my day-now the days are so full and satisfying. Yet I don’t feel as if I have a tiger by the tail. I can schedule time out whenever I feel the need. My business, created by me, and pretty much, my baby.

So if you are looking for something to work on that you can have the satisfaction of nurturing and growing, I suggest you start the way I did. Get a copy of the free book The Iceberg Effect and read it carefully. It’s a step-by-step guide to affiliate marketing and how it works in this day and age. How and where you can discover real opportunities below the surface of the day-to-day business world. How the opportunities you can see are just the tip of the real deals underlying the surface stuff-just like an iceberg.
So if you are interested in having a go at starting your own business either as a part time interest or a full-time concern, grab your free copy of The Iceberg Effect here. And be prepared for some surprises!
Review:
This week my review focuses on a product that is not from the Internet Profits stable. It is not a product I have personally tried but it has been recommended to me by people I trust. I have watched the introductory video and if I wasn’t fully occupied with Internet Profits it is certainly something I would be willing to try.
In the interests of transparency, I need to tell you that if after watching the video you decide to explore further, I will receive a commission.
